Reynoldsburg -- At the June 2024 Regular Board of Education meeting, the Reynoldsburg Education Foundation joined the Reynoldsburg City School District in naming Dhevon Pullins as this year's Phyllis Mayberry Scholar Student Award recipient.
The award was named after Phyllis Mayberry because of her long and dedicated service to Reynoldsburg City Schools. Phyllis is the longest serving employee in the entire district, and has driven a bus, transporting our community's most precious cargo, for some 38 years. Miss Phyllis – as she is known to her students – has been driving Reynoldsburg students who are enrolled in schools with one of our education partners for outside placement. She currently transports students attending the Ohio State School for the Blind. The District, with the unanimous approval of the Board of Education, created the award to honor Miss Phyllis and to recognize one Reynoldsburg student each year. The recipient must attend classes with one of our district partners, and must achieve excellence in all academic endeavors or through extracurricular programming. This year’s winner of the Phyllis Mayberry Scholar Student Award, Dhevon Pullins, attends the Ohio State School for the Blind. Dhevon was an 8th grader this past school year and participated in the marching band, Goal-ball, and Swimming, earning an MVP in both sports. Academically, he earned a 3.8 GPA for the school year. His teachers say that he is a role model and a pleasure in class, not only an excellent student but a fine young man. He respects classroom rules, peers, and staff.
